In the winter?

During the winter months, most people don't think about building a deck or installing a fence. Actually, for several reasons, January and February is an ideal time to start either of these home improvements.

One of the biggest advantages is that historically, lumber prices trend downward in the fall and winter months and rebound in the spring. Additionally, most manufactures of man-made fencing and decking materials increase their prices at the beginning of the spring season.  Whether you plan to do the job by yourself or hire a professional, purchasing material or contracting a job now can possibly save you a considerable amount.

But, you say, it's too cold to build a deck or install a fence in the winter. Not so. It takes 4 or 5 days of subfreezing temperatures or a significant snow fall to slow down construction. As a matter of fact, over the last several winters we have averaged fewer than 10 days lost to winter weather. You might not want to do the work yourself, but contractors generally are eager for winter work.  Best of all, you will receive their undivided attention.

Another advantage of planning your project in the winter is that you will avoid the spring rush, particularly if you want a contractor to do the work.  Even if you plan to do your own work, material will be more readily available and deliveries will be faster. The best part of all - your project will be done and ready for you to enjoy when the nice spring weather does arrive. You will be able to start your gardening and landscaping at the first sign of spring and not have to disrupt plantings later in the season. Imagine sitting on your deck or enjoying the beauty of your new fence when the first flowers begin to bloom and the trees start to bud and your neighbors are just beginning their projects.

At Rudl, we install fences. We will come to your home, help you determine what fence is best for your needs - aesthetically, practically and financially - and give you a FREE estimate. The work will be done for you, guaranteed to meet your satisfaction. Again, in the winter, prices tend to be lower then when the spring/summer season begins.
